    I send happy birthday wishes into the ether for poet and novelist Richard Brautigan. Born in Tacoma, Washington in 1935, he was the San Francisco hippie author who read his poetry at psychedelic rock concerts, helped produce underground newspapers, and became involved with the Beat Movement. Back in 1961, while camping and hiking with his wife and young daughter in Idaho’s Stanley Basin, he sat next to trout streams with his portable typewriter and wrote his best known book, Trout Fishing in America (published in 1967).
